New Waves Sustainable Surf Fish Fry

New Waves Surf Fish Fry - a gathering

New Waves Sustainable Surf Fish Fry

Why Fry?

After the previous two years of bizarreness, this seemed like a great time to instigate such a gathering before things again get 'too normal'.

Fish Frys have long been a reason for shapers and creators to get together, to show what they've been cooking up, the materials they've been innovating with, to talk about new direction(s) and to share ideas ... and judging by the hazy heads the day after, a great excuse for other endeavours!

Why Fry How?

Between ourselves at ECHO Surf and our fixer/ shaper-sherpa guide/ eco-board alchemist Chris at Bandwagon, the New Waves Fish Fry took place at Bude Surf Life Saving Club on the 1st of April.

Perhaps Instagram algorithms do sometimes actually show folks the things that they want to see - the turnout throughout the day was great!

From backyard shapers and surfboard design newbies, to industry stalwarts and the sustainable surf faithful, we wanted to demonstrate that good surfing doesn’t need to cost the Earth. To demonstrate and discuss that the materials people perceive that are necessary for performance and aesthetics.

Folks brought surfboards, fins, belly boards, surf skates and handplanes to show, visitors checked out the displays, talked to the makers and shakers ... and swapped beers.

Fry Features

We were stoked to have caught the eye of the Sustainable Surf guys in the US and we offered to showcase their Seaweed Surfboard short film featuring foam innovator Charlie Cadin charlie.cadin and shaper Ryan Hervé hervesurfboards, both hailing from Jersey.

It was a great honour to meet such inspirational creators striving to truly make a difference and hear about other applications of the seaweed foam for the greater good. The film produced by story tellers projectblue can be viewed on the sustainsurf Instagram profile.

The guys at Polyola Eco Foam kindly donated a 6'4" Fish blank as a Raffle prize and this still open (proceeds going to the 2 Minute Foundation and Sea Trees)

Posters and Artwork for the event is still available also - £5.00 or £9.00 for 2 (one of each design)
